Equine Nursery is designed to be a top-quality program and a complete solution so the breeding process is as efficient, effective, seamless and FUN as possible for both you and your horses. With the horses living in the same groups for years, either retired or as babies, we get far fewer injuries or accidents, lower stress for the horses and fewer health issues. We also get far better care for the horses and results of reproducing when the horses are known over time by everyone that handles them. Should that be the vet, blacksmith or any member of the team working to bring out the best in each horse and give them positive experiences. Creating an integrated and complete top quality solution was critical for our goal and vision for ourselves, our customers and the horses. To that end we oversee the following services and more:
Facilities
Our facilities are constantly going through upgrades as our business grows to ensure we are best in class and exceed any welfare standards. We strive to create the optimal situation for each horse year-round and that requires significant infrastructure that is purpose built to be safe and optimal for horses mental and physical wellness and development. We build facilities that allow our employees to handle the horses in a way that is as efficient, relaxed, and safe as possible. Having indoor facilities built in this way leads to less injuries and allows correct development of joints, muscles and mentality. ​
Recipient Mares
In order to ensure the health of your foals and the best possible outcome for your breeding, we maintain our own herd of recipient mares. This allows us to insure they are fertile and have the best likelihood of catching. It also allows us to insure their welfare and level of care and health. We want to be sure your growing foal is carried by a healthy and happy surrogate mother. By ensuring her quality of care we make sure she raises a healthy baby without any behavioral or health issues coming from the surrogate. We do this in house for you to be sure!
Retirement
Easier said than done for some of these top competition mares! We ensure these competitors go through an appropriate and individually tailored transition to retirement. Our goal is to get them happy and relaxed. We work towards getting the mares into happy consistent groups that will spend years together grazing away. We aim for them to spend as much time as weather permits outside on well-kept safe fields. Under constant monitoring, they also have facilities to get out of the weather when needed. We interrupt them as little as possible, even when collecting embryos, to ensure they are always relaxed.
Embryo Transfer or ICSI​
Once we have a successful embryo it must be flushed or transferred at the correct time. We have the reproduction experts that are best in class to assist with this to make sure your investment is as fruitful as possible. The timing, experience and expertise here are critical. Not just in managing your mare, but also the recipient mare that receives the embryo. All of these logistics we take care of for you!
Stallion Pairing
Everyone owner can pick which ever stallions they like but we offer support based on logistics, costs, breeding contracts, availability, back up stallions, individual breeding line research, and stallion crossing research. You drive the customer design of your next generation! We are your resource!
Insemination Logistics
Picking the stallion is one step, following that are breeding contracts and stallion availability. The semen must be shipped in time with the mare cycle, stored correctly and inseminated with correct timing. We take care of all of this for you!

From constant surveillance of the horses, to daily check in's, every horse in our care is monitored to maintain their health. X-Ray's are taken at the appropriate age to ensure proper development and growth.

Raising & Handling
Every young horse is different, but we strive to handle each individual, so they are confident, relaxed and safe, both to themselves, and those that work with them. We want them to understand and be empowered for the career that lies ahead. We also like horses to be horses! We find a balance between handling and free time to buck and play and be a horse! Not being in bubble wrap does come with the odd bumps and bruises but the science has proven not only do they need this mentally but also physically to build strength and resilience in their bodies. Horses’ tendons only grow in size until they are 18-24 months old. Past that point they may get stronger but not bigger. That is why how they are raised early is critical and at the core of our approach.
Nutrition
One of our biggest discoveries when optimizing the program at Equine Nursery was how much it was possible to improve nutrition. Nutrition is critical for developing healthy joints, ligaments, muscles, mind and all elements of a young athlete. This includes feed and supplements, but also ensuring the right distribution to a group. We found one of the biggest places to gain was on hay and grass. We ensure high quality and consistent hay for nutrition and digestion. Likewise for grass, we manage how the fields are maintained and soil balances. Having the right micro and macro nutrients, protein, fat and fiber are critical and require managing nutrition sources purposely and consistently.
Birthing
One of the most exciting and risky parts of breeding is birthing! We employ experts and vets to monitor at all stages. We aim to minimize any risk and support mom and baby through this exciting process. We have the team and facility to produce the best possible outcomes. We use a number of recipient mares that are purposely selected for their conformation, health and age to ensure older competition mares are not put at undue risk.
Education
Once it is time to start your future star's education, we can also facilitate free jumping, saddle training, and start of competition milage through our network of professionals should you choose.
Welfare and Care
We are horse lovers! They are family and we take the responsibility of caring for them to heart! As a team, we feel we should do even better for all the horses. We take the welfare of our horses and how we care for them extremely seriously. We meet and exceed every external welfare recommendation and standard. We strive to be a world leader in the space of retiring and raising horses and will attempt every day to raise the standard and lead by example.
